The MLC Angler of the Year 2009
The MLC Angler of the Year is an annual year long national competition running from June 1st through to June 1st the following year. It's purpose is to encourage and promote competitive carp angling events and to recognize and reward anglers of the highest skill levels. We hope that by giving carp anglers this platform it will give them and our sport vital exposure and ultimately bring in major sponsorships for individuals and events.

Any registered MLC carp angler can participate. The points system we have developed offers anglers across the nation the chance to compete on equal terms. The MLC Angler of the year will be announced each year  in June. There will be a leaderboard featured here on the MLC site which will be regularly updated. Outstanding results will be highlighted with featured angler biographies. Anglers will also be able to view sponsorship and prize list updates.

The points system works as follows. Each competing angler scores a point for each place that they finish in the top ten of an event with a bonus point for a win. If there is 10 anglers taking part then first place would mean 11 points towards the MLC  Angler of the year competition, 9 points for second place and so on down to 1 point for tenth place. For two man team events the same points system applies.  Additional bonus point of 1 per ten participants can be scored  up to a maximum of 100 anglers. The winner of a 20 entry event will score 12 points, 30 entries will score 13 and so on up to the maximum of 100 entries giving 20 points (winners only). The event can be a team or individual event.  Win a 20 entry two man team event and both anglers qualify for 12 points in the competition and so on.  By concentrating on points and position rather than weight we think that this will give a much more accurate reflection of an anglers performance throughout the year.

We are limiting this years submissions to eight events. An anglers best and worst results will be scratched so it will be six from eight entries for each angler. The great thing about the MLC Angler of the year is that any events can be nominated by you and submitted. You can even organize your own qualifiers! A minimum of ten entries are all you need to qualify and the event must be open to all.
Please see News and Events for current nominations.
